Around 800 migrants drowned off the coast of Tunisia in 2023

Approximately 800 migrants attempting to reach Europe through irregular means drowned off the Tunisian shores in the first six months of 2023, according to the spokesperson for the National Guard, as reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

According to the same source, a total of "789 bodies of migrants were recovered from the sea, including 102 Tunisians, while the others were foreigners and remain unidentified."
