China Declines to Elaborate on Defense Minister's Dismissal

China refused On Wednesday to clarify the reasons behind the dismissal of Defense Minister Li Shangfu after weeks of his absence in public—a move that came as part of a major cabinet reshuffle announced on Tuesday.

In response to a question on this matter, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, told journalists on Wednesday, "I do not have any additional information to provide."

Journalists were referred to the New China News Agency (Xinhua), which also did not provide details regarding the dismissal of the minister, who had assumed his position in March.
