Saudi
Acharq al-Awsat Daily published on Thursday a peace plan to solve the
Syrian crisis stipulating the formation of a “dialogue table” which
would act like a Senate. According to the plan the table will be headed
by the Syrian Vice-President, representing both the opposition and the
regime and charged with leading a transitional phase.
The
Daily published the text of a draft document entitled “the Syrian Peace
Agreement Proposal” calling for “the establishment of a dialogue table
comprised of 140 members; 102 of which are elected under the strict
supervision of the U.N. and 38 by acclamation from the regime, the
opposition and religious references.”
According to the
Daily, signing this agreement would mark the announcement of an
immediate ceasefire and the beginning of the withdrawal of troops from
civil regions, according to the 30 day- schedule annexed by the
agreement.
According to the plan, the Senate will be in
charge of “putting an end to bloodshed, feeding the hungry, sheltering
the homeless, ensuring the Syrian national reconciliation, setting the
conditions of general amnesty, serving justice and building a Syrian
civil state.”
On the field, Syrian rebels seized a town near the Iraqi border in the eastern oil producing province of Hasakah on Thursday, taking a main defensive position from forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad on the road to the provincial capital, rebels said.
Omar Abu Laila, a spokesman for the eastern command of the rebel Free Syrian Army, said rebel units including fighters of the al Qaeda-linked Nusra front were now in control of al-Shaddadeh, 46 km (30 miles) south of Hasakah city, after overrunning state security and military intelligence compounds. According to a monitor group, at least 30 Nusra Front fighters and 100 Syrian soldiers were killed over the 3 days of fighting in the eastern town of al-Shaddadeh.
However, at least 100 Syrian soldiers and
30 rebels from the al-Qaeda affiliated group al-Nusra Front were killed in
three days of fighting in a town near the Iraqi border taken by insurgents on
Thursday, an opposition monitoring group said.
Coinciding with the report by the Syrian
Observatory for Human Rights was a video posted on YouTube showing fighters
from the Nusra Front celebrating and chanting "Allahu Akbar, Nusra
Nusra".
Separately, an Iranian official was been killed on the road from Damascus in Syria to Beirut, the Iranian embassy in Lebanon said on Thursday, blaming the attack on "armed terrorists".
It named the dead man as Hussam Khosh Nuweis, head of an Iranian agency which helped reconstruction in Lebanon following a 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.
