Libyans mark second anniversary of uprising which ousted Moammar Gadhafi

Crowds were out in force in Libya's capital Tripoli on Sunday to mark the second anniversary of 17 February revolution which ousted the former president Moammar Gadhafi in 2011.

The mood was buoyant, with many sounding their car horns as they drove, many flying the Libyan flag.

The red, green and black colors of the flag of the new Libyan government were everywhere, from banners to balloons and clothing.

"Best wishes to all and all the best to come," said one woman in Tripoli, Ehfedha Mohamed.

"But we must be united together and love each other."

The new Libyan central government has little authority beyond the capital, Tripoli, and the country is fractured by militias, tribes and regional loyalties.

But for today at least, Libyans are focused on celebrating the revolution that pushed Moammar Gadhafi from power.

"We are with the state, our revolution is blessed," said Najya Al Lafi.

"And with God's will it's going forward, with God's will."
