Libyan Transitional Council calls for extending NATO’s mission

The chairman of Libya’s National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdul Jalil called on NATO to extend its mission in Libya until the end of this year “at least”, “for that will benefit Libya, the neighboring countries and the Southern countries”.

“The goal behind extending NATO’s mission would be to prevent weapons smuggling and the flight of Gaddafi supporters to neighboring countries”, Abdul Jalil said at a meeting with the military alliance in Qatar on Wednesday.

Abdul Jalil assured that the Council is seeking to develop the Libyan security and defense system in cooperation with NATO.
