Huge Masses in Deir Ezzor while Arab League waits for Syrian response

Huge masses flocked on Tuesday to Sabaa Bahrat Square in Deir Ezzor, 432 km from Damascus, to voice support for Syria's independent national decision and the comprehensive reform program led by President Bashar al-Assad.

Participants in the rally expressed their rejection of the foreign interference in Syria's internal affairs.

They also thanked Russia and China for their support for Syria.

At the regional level, the Arab Ministerial Committee is waiting for Syria’s response to its plan which implies the halt of violence, the withdrawal of Syrian army from the streets and starting a dialogue with the opposition.

A senior diplomat in the Arab League said that Syria has been given until Tuesday to give its final response to the Arab initiative. The diplomat told AFP that Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mouallem requested on Monday to apply certain modifications to the Arab initiative, among which few were endorsed by the League.
