War crimes court acquits two former Serbian officials

War crimes judges acquitted former Serbian security chief Jovica Stanisic on Thursday of involvement in the commission of crimes by soldiers in Bosnia and Croatia during the wars that followed the breakup of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s.

Franko Simatovic, a counter-intelligence officer in the Serbian State Security Services, was acquitted of similar charges.

Judges said there was insufficient evidence to show that either man had assisted soldiers who allegedly were responsible for murder and other crimes.
