REPORT: Demonstration backing Assad and Hezbollah staged in Montreux

A pro-Assad demonstration was staged on Wednesday outside the headquarters of the Geneva 2 conference.

Protesters held posters of President Bashar Assad and Secretary General of Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and flags of Hezbollah.

Fighting in Syria has killed more than 130,000 people and left millions of refugees, either in camps or squats in neighboring countries or within Syria's borders.

The country's economy has been devastated, and bombs and gunfire have ruined once-thriving cities.

The international conference to try and resolve Syria's civil war started on Wednesday in the Swiss resort of Montreux.

Later this week in Geneva, Syria's warring sides will sit down for their first face-to-face meeting since the conflict erupted in 2011.
