ISIL linked group claims responsibility for the Duroy hotel attack
A previously unknown jihadist group linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed on Friday responsibility for the Duroy Hotel suicide bombing in Beirut.

The group identified as the state of Damascus-Qalamoun said via its twitter account on Thursday that two ISIL members targeted General Security agents at the hotel in Beirut's Raouche.

The group also vowed to carry out more attacks against Hezbollah and "its agents", saying that Raouche's bombing was "just the start."

Previously, the Liwaa Ahrar al-Sunna Baalbek militants had also claimed via their twitter account responsibility for the attack, stating that they will neither have mercy on Hezbollah nor on the Lebanese Armed Forces.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at the hotel when he detonated his explosives during a security raid. His accomplice survived the attack and is being interrogated at hospital.

Reports said they were plotting to target al-Saha Restaurant in Beirut's southern suburbs.

Wednesday's attack was the third suicide bombing in Lebanon in less than a week.

Syria's civil war has spilled into Lebanon on several occasions and inflamed sectarian tensions.

A series of car bombs have struck Shiite areas in Lebanon, killing dozens of people.

Sunni militants have claimed responsibility for the attacks to avenge Hezbollah, which has sent fighters to Syria to help President Bashar Assad's troops in their battles against the rebels seeking to topple him.
