Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif kicked off on Wednesday his meetings by holding talks with Defense Minister Samir Moqbel.

The FM stressed that Iran’s expected grant to the Lebanese army is related to the lifting of sanctions against Iran.

He later held talks with Speaker Nabih Berri after which he stressed that Iran will “always stand by Lebanon and its people.”

Zarif will be travelling to Syria's Damascus after wrapping up his visit to Lebanon later on Wednesday.

On Tuesday night, Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah met with Zarif and the delegation accompanying him, in the presence of the Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Fathali.

Talks featured high on the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, the ongoing endeavors in order to find solutions for the regional crises and the consequences of the nuclear deal.

Zarif arrived on an official visit to the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday (August 11).

He started his visit by holding talks with Prime Minister Tammam Salam

The conflict in Syria has spilled over its borders into Lebanon on multiple occasions since 2011 and has exacerbated existing political tensions within the small country.
Shortly after arriving in Beirut, Zarif warned that Israel played a 'dangerous game' with the Iranian nuclear file, "which has been defeated."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly said that the deal that Iran hammered out with world powers regarding its nuclear program is going to lead to regional instability and conflict.
