US military members among Colorado shooting casualties
U.S. military personnel apparently were among the casualties in the shooting at a "Batman" movie in Colorado Friday but it was not immediately clear whether any were killed, the Defense Department said.

Initial indications are that some service members were casualties and the alleged shooter did not have any military ties, spokesmen for the Pentagon and the military's joint chiefs of staff told reporters. They did not immediately have any numbers for the military casualties.

The apartment of the man suspected in the mass shooting at a Denver-area screening of the latest Batman movie is "booby-trapped" with an array of sophisticated material, the local police chief said Friday.

Speaking at the scene where police were working to gain access to the apartment, Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates said:

"His apartment is booby-trapped. We are trying to determine how to disarm the flammable or explosive material. We could be here for hours or days. The pictures are fairly disturbing. It looks very sophisticated, how it's booby-trapped. It could be a very long wait."

Police arrested a suspect in a shooting in a suburban Denver movie theater in which 14 people were killed, and there was no evidence of a second gunman, Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said on Friday.

Dozens of police were at the scene, and the authorities evacuated the area while they checked if there was an explosive device in the area.

President Barack Obama on Friday expressed shock and sorrow at the overnight shooting in a Denver movie theater.

"We are committed to bringing whoever was responsible to justice, ensuring the safety of our people, and caring for those who have been wounded. As we do when confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must now come together as one American family," Obama said in a statement.

Similarly the White House said that, no apparent 'nexus' was made between the shooting and 'terrorism' at this point.
