Sleiman meets with Indian FM, tackles bilateral relations

President Michel Sleiman met on Monday at the Baabda Palace with the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs Shri Ahamed, accompanied by an Indian delegation, where he stressed the need to promote bilateral relations, mainly in the fields of education, tourism and economy.

Sleiman praised India's contribution to the international forces operating in the south, hoping "to work hand in hand in order to foster bilateral relations by signing agreements and exchanging experiences."

For his part, the Indian minister highlighted Lebanon's importance to his country, pointing out to the Indian contingent operating within the UNIFIL, estimated at about 900 soldiers that are set to participate in peacekeeping and assistance in the implementation of resolution 1701.

The meeting also tackled the regional situation, mainly in neighboring Syria, and the need to end widespread violence.
