Mikati meets Arsal delegation, mayor calls for LAF deployment in town

Lebanese PM Najib Mikati held a meeting on Tuesday with a delegation from the town of Arsal.

The delegation was headed by Arsal’s mayor Ali Hjeiri who stressed that “there are two issues that cannot withstand any ambiguity: first, the issue of collaborating with Israel; second, the issue of fundamentalist groups.”
In response to remarks put forth by Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn, Hjeiri said that “instead of accusing the town of harboring al-Qaeda members, they’d rather impose security and develop the town”, reiterating his call for deploying LAF in the town.

Hjeiri also stressed that “Arsal is under the command of the LAF that is responsible for protecting the border”, mentioning a meeting to be held next Thursday with the LAF commander.

Mikati aslo met with a delegation from Beirut MPs who urged him to turn the capital into an “arms- free Beirut”.
