Wahhab to LBCI: Al Qaeda has no base in Lebanon

Leader of the Arab Tawheed Party, Wiam Wahhab announced on Friday that Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn was informed through the security apparatuses’ reports of Al Qaeda members infiltrating into Syria.      

Wahhab added that he resorted in person to security officials to obtain clarification on the matter and that it was thereby confirmed to him that individuals are indeed infiltrating into Syria.    

“Al Qaeda has no base in Lebanon; however, there are militants similar to those who had infiltrated into Afghanistan and Iraq,” he confirmed.    


Commenting on the Syrian issue, Wahhab revealed that he is paying visits to Syria, admitting that “there are corruption and rightful demands in Syria; but there is no demand for reform, they rather want the head of President Bashar Assad.”   

“The situation in Syria will never change but through an international intervention which has dangerous repercussions,” he added.     

As for governmental issues, Wahhab said the current cabinet does not differ from previous ones; “there will be no mechanism to tackle internal issues as long as the president’s prerogatives are absent.”   

In his concluding remarks, Wahhab voiced surprise over PM Najib Mikati’s defensive stance on the premiership’s prerogatives since no one has violated them, as he said.
