REPORT: Lebanon's security forces detain 102 suspects during Hamra raids

Lebanon's security forces arrested on Friday 102 suspects during raids in the region of Hamra and surrounding areas.

This comes after reports said terrorist groups were plotting security breaches in Beirut.

Following investigations with the detainees, 85 of whom were released while 17 remained under investigation , the state-run National News Agency reported.

Earlier, a joint force from the Internal Security Forces' Information bureau and the General Security arrested 17 persons after raids were carried out in several hotels in Hamra. This comes within the framework of security measures taken in order to thwart terrorist attacks.

Twelve suspects were arrested in the Napoleon Hotel and five were detained in other hotels including Casa D'or Hotel.

Most of the detainees, affiliated with an armed terrorist organization, carry non-Lebanese nationalities.

In this regard, sources reported that this group arrived late on Thursday to Lebanon and was plotting a "major" terrorist attack in a celebration that was due to be held Friday before noon at the UNESCO Palace.

Sources also told LBCI that the German Intelligence on Monday provided the Lebanese security apparatuses with information about a terrorist plot based on intel it had uncovered in Mosul.

Following the Hamra raids, a suicide attack left one killed, an ISF member, and several others wounded after a vehicle detonated at a security checkpoint in Bekaa's Daher al-Baydar area.
