Rai blames external actors for most Lebanese problems

Maronite Patriarch Bshara Rai said that if the political situation in Lebanon does not drastically change we [the Lebanese] are all going to face a serious economic and social crisis, adding that the problem is that every individual believes in his own interests before those of the country.

“We do not trust each other, our politicians need to sit together and talk to solve the problems”, Rai told the reporters in a press conference. “No one can deny that there is a problem in the ruling system; the reforms they promised us are still pending at a time when our country is in need”.

“We should be realistic, three-quarters of our problems are external and the rest are the result of our internal misunderstandings; we have launched talks with Hezbollah on all pending matters, but don’t try to be snide about this”
