Terrorist network planning to assassinate top security official arrested - LAF

The Lebanese Armed Forces Command declared on Wednesday that the army’ Intelligence Directorate arrested a terrorist network in the Qalamoun region, planning on assassinating a senior security official in North Lebanon.

In a statement issued, the army said that the members, identified as Wassim Ahmad al-Qass, Wissam Ahmad al-Qass, Dany Ahmad al-Qass, Amjad Nouhad al-Khatib and Nabil Kamel Bayda, were referred to the concerned judiciary for necessary measures.

The army command stressed that the directorate is doubling its efforts in order to arrest the remaining members of the network and reveal future plots.

Earlier in the day, sources told LBCI that the LAF’s Intelligence directorate ended interrogations with Wassim, Dany, Wissam al-Qass, Amjad al-Khatib and Nabil Bayda, who were identified as high profile members of a terrorist network planning to assassinate a top security official in North Lebanon.

The sources revealed that the network was planning to implement terrorist attacks in Tripoli, noting that the members who were arrested are affiliated with the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, an off-shoot of al-Qaeda which had claimed responsibility for the suicide blast that took place on Monday in south Beirut's Tayouneh region.
