Italy supports Iranian sanctions over nukes

Italy on Tuesday condemned Iran's decision to proceed with its uranium enrichment program adding that it would support its European Union allies in imposing severe and effective sanctions against Tehran.

Iran's permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) earlier said that the reaction of the U.S. and European countries, that described the announcement of the nuclear enrichment at the Fordo enrichment site as “provocative”, is based on political motives.

Ali-Asghar Soltanieh said all of the country's nuclear activities are under the supervision of the UN nuclear watchdog.

"Now with the 24-hour surveillance by cameras and inspections, the enrichment activities in Natanz and Fordo are under the control of the IAEA,” Soltanieh added.
