REPORT: Judge Saqr finalizes investigations with terrorism suspect Hossam Sabbagh

The State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr finalized Friday the investigations with terrorism suspect Hussam Sabbagh, and is due to press charges against him.

On July 19th, Lebanese army soldiers arrested Sheikh Hossam Sabbagh and his bodyguards at an army checkpoint in Tripoli’s Abi Samra regions.

Following the incident, supporters of Sheikh Sabbagh staged protests and sit-ins across the city of Tripoli, urging the authorities to release him.

Sabbagh is suspected of recruiting and sending fighters across the border to take part in the armed conflict against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

According to security reports, the Lebanese-Australian cleric is also believed to have previously called on jihadis to attack Australian soldiers in Afghanistan where he allegedly participated in the war, and commands an armed force of at least 300 jihadi fighters.
