Charbel: Owner of Achrafieh collapsed building arrested

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said on Monday that the building that collapsed in Achrafieh on Sunday is home to 50 people, 11 of whom were found dead, 12 injured and 17 are still missing. Charbel ruled out the possibility of finding any survivors, adding that the building seems like a cardboard box.

Charbel told Voice of Lebanon that the owner of the building has been arrested and is under investigations. Charbel urged Lebanese citizens to help the state and municipalities by presenting requests to investigate 40 to 50 old buildings. Charbel voiced hope that this issue be taken seriously.

Charbel noted that a large number of buildings are in a run-down state because of the war and the diggings surrounding them, stressing the need to join forces to prevent human disasters.
