Sleiman: Lebanon’s model can serve as example

President Michel Sleiman said on Friday that what is important for Lebanon is to be surrounded by countries that respect democracy far from sectarian fanaticism.

“Countries that believe in reform and the need to respect freedoms and human rights, countries that allow everyone to participate in public affairs”, Sleiman said.

During a meeting with the Head of the Kataeb party MP Amin Gemayel accompanied by representatives of democratic parties; Sleiman said that the Lebanese model can be beneficial where there is a mixture of diversity and tensions.

“Lebanon’s model can be adopted as an alternative for dictatorship, federal system, division or sectarian majority all unjust for minorities”, Sleiman said.

Sleiman underscored the importance of encouraging consensual parties and movements in pluralistic Arab countries.

Sleiman emphasized the need to protect dialogue and democracy in Lebanon and improve democracy through sound electoral and decentralization laws.
