In this regard, the minister stressed that the campaign will reach all the Lebanese regions, without exception, calling on the Lebanese citizens to trust his initiative.
For his part, the chairman of the Authority for Agricultural and Scientific Research, Michel Ephrem announced that all the samples brought to the lab for tests met the required standards and conditions, noting that the criteria adopted by the research center are the most advanced in Lebanon.
Ephrem added that this center is assigned by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to be the institution that examines others in Lebanon.
In a statement to LBCI, the minister pointed out that an agreement was reached with the American University of Beirut in order to use its labs, since the ministry’s research center can no longer receive the large number of samples.
Health Minister Wael Abou Faour has been launching a campaign against corruption detected in restaurants and supermarkets in regards to food safety standards, and has made public thus far two lists of violating restaurants and supermarkets underscoring the types of unfit foods being sold.
The minister, who has received the support of many political forces, vowed to push ahead with his campaign, and stressed the need to protect the Lebanese citizens against any type of contamination.
