Charbel, kortbawi takes a tour of Roumieh prison

The subject of improvement of the prisons’ situation in Lebanon topped the visit of Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, Justice Minister Shakib Kortbawi to Roumieh prison.

Kortbawi urged the cabinet to ensure the needed funds and personnel and also called on the judges to double their efforts in regard to trials.

Kortabwi disclosed a raft of solutions to the prison’s problems among which is speeding up trial, downsizing the number of those awaiting trial and establishing new prison buildings.

In turn, Charbel stressed that the prison situation is a collective responsibility, adding that “as interior minister, I put my ministry at the disposal of the justice minister in order to meet the needs of inmates as much as possible; if we can’t speed up trial we will find other means.”
