Awwali water to be redirected to Beirut soon

The Minister of Energy Gebran Bassil met with the head of the World Bank in Beirut Hadi Al-Arabi on Wednesday to sign a loan agreement to redirect water from Al-Awwali to Beirut.

The project funded by the World Bank will be jointly executed by Beirut and Mount Lebanon Water Authority, and the Council for Development and Reconstruction, under the supervision of the Ministry of Water and Energy Resources and is expected to cost USD 370-million.

Bassil noted that this project is not enough to meet the city's substantial water needs.
