Kahwaji hails Army for restoring calm in Tripoli

Army Commander Brig. Gen. Jean Kahwaji underscored the necessity for Lebanon to remain on alert in the face of the national enemy.

Kahwaji met with seniors and officers in the Army Command in Yarzeh on Thursday.

Kahwaji highlighted the importance of strengthening ties with citizens of south Lebanon and UNIFIL, as a means to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and serve Lebanon's high national interest.

The LAF commander hailed army units for their efforts in preserving local calm and restoring security across the city of Tripoli after the recent turmoil.

Kahwaji described incidents in Tripoli as a hopeless bid to flare up civil war in the country, especially after the army's tireless endeavor to safeguard the Lebanese-Syrian border.

In his concluding remarks, General Kahwaji said that the regional crisis should never be taken as an opportunity to destabilize the domestic situation which threatens national interests.
