A number of civil society activists were released on Saturday morning, after being arrested during Thursday’s protest, noting that two detainees remain at the police station in Jdeideh, while 12 remain held at other stations.
In turn, the attorney defending the activists Mazen Hoteit denounced the judiciary’s approach in handling this issue, noting that “they pretend to conduct investigations, while the procedural operations have ended.”
The activists defense lawyers added that the Public Prosecution intends to impose sanctions in order intimidate the activists.
For his part, State’s Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr said the files of detainees arrested during Thursday’s protest are being reviewed, adding that the appropriate legal measures will be taken against those found involved in violent acts.
