Hariri on March 14: neighboring regime taking last breaths
Former PM Saad Hariri said in a statement issued on Wednesday that March 14 forces are not “owned” by any movement or party and that it is not a mere traditional political movement. Hariri stressed that March 14 cannot be reduced to a political gathering, adding “it achieved the second independence revolution against the security system and the national unity revolution against the sectarian division”.

Hariri stressed that March 14 is a glorious day, adding that the Lebanese majority chose to turn it into a bridge that will lead to an independent sovereign state while others wished for it to become yet another reason for further division. Hariri attached great importance to the unity of the Lebanese that helped counter great challenges, adding that the solution of a unified state has no alternative.

“The opportunity, that many inside and outside the country tried to waste, the opportunity that came following March 14 is still here”, Hariri said, “in light of the winds of change sweeping the Arab World the opportunity should not be missed due to extremism, political stubbornness, losing bets and the threat of weapons."

According to Hariri, after March 14 the Lebanese decided that they wish for the external tutelage to be lifted off their country, “they will not accept the Lebanese Republic to fall once again hostage to tutelage, whether it is direct or indirect”.

Hariri said that the “neighboring regime is taking its last breaths; therefore it would be illogical for any internal party to bet on changing the course of history and breathe new life in a failing regime”.
