Qortbawi: Higher Judicial Council should not remain without a president
Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi told Voice of Lebanon radio station that the issues of overspending and balance sheets are expected to be tabled during Wednesday’s cabinet session. Qortbawi underscored on Monday the importance of auditing and scrutinizing public finances.

Speaking on the appointment of a head of the Higher Judicial Council, Qortbawi said: “The appointment mechanism that was agreed upon did not stipulate that three names be submitted to the cabinet, rather one name. The cabinet will make its decision after the Justice Minister submits the name that he chose”.

Qortbawi voiced hope that this issue is settled as soon as possible, adding that this position should no longer remain vacant and the council, whose mandate expires in the beginning of June, should not remain without a president.
