Head of Future bloc Fouad Saniora reiterated on Sunday that “the differences that emerged in the March 14 coalition cannot affect the core of the main cause, which is related to Lebanon’s existence,” stressing that the March 14 cause is rightful.
Saniora, in a speech commemorating Former Minister Mohammed Shatah on the second anniversary of the latter's death, said that Shatah believed in Lebanon as a state of law and called for the implementation of the Taef Accord.
He noted that Shatah’s contributions were effective in all the deliberations that led to the final text of Resolution 1701, the creation of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, and the issues of the Shebaa Farms and the demarcation of the Exclusive Economic Zone.
On another note, he reiterated the rejection of the Future bloc to the military engagement of Hezbollah in Syria, considering that by doing so the party is not combating terrorism.
Commenting on the presidential issue, he said that the deadlock can be ended through the election of a president who represents the unity of the nation.
Mohammad Shatah was the adviser of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
He was killed after his vehicle was struck by a nearby car bomb as it passed through Minet al-Hosn, a busy area in central Beirut.
