Obama calls Abbas to discuss peace process

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call from U.S. President Barack Obama Monday and they discussed the stumbling peace process, mainly the existing contacts to resume Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, according to Palestinian sources.

Palestinian Presidential Spokesman, Nabil Abu Roudayna, told AFP that in a phone call he received from President Obama, Abbas assured that Palestinians are always ready to go back to negotiations if Israel responded to the Quartet’s request regarding security and borders.

Abu Roudayna said that during the phone call, Abbas mentioned the Israeli settlement activities, the repeated invasions and the violations committed by settlers in the West Bank, at a time when the Palestinian authority is fulfilling all of its obligations.
