REPORT: Machnouq meets with Aoun, discusses municipal elections

Minister of Interior Nouhad Machnouq said on Saturday that Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun is keen on distancing the country from the regional turmoil.

Machnouq’s comments were made following his meeting with Aoun in Rabieh whereby he noted that “Aoun is truly convinced in MP Saad Hariri’s efforts to elect a new president.”

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum after Michel Sleiman's presidential mandate ended on May 25, 2014 with rival political blocs still divided over a new leader.
