REPORT: Family of arrested ex-MP Yaacoub: Amal calls its partisans not to support us
The family of arrested ex-MP Hassan Yaacoub held on Sunday a press conference whereby it accused Amal Movement of calling its supporters not to show solidarity towards them, adding that the cellphones of the family members are tapped.

“The detention is political par excellence and his judicial file is totally empty,” Hassan Yaacoub’s brother, Ali, told reporters during the press conference.

Yesterday, the wife of Sheikh Mohamed Yaacoub was brought into the “Hotel Dieu” hospital after undergoing a one-week hunger strike.

Sheikh’s wife had started her hunger strike at al-Safa mosque, demonstrating against the political arrest of her eldest son, the former deputy Hassan Yaacoub.

Yaacoub is in detention on charges of his involvement in the abduction of the son of deposed Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. His supporters have been holding near daily protests to demand his release since his arrest last month.

Yaacoub's father was accompanying Imam Moussa al-Sadr and another man when they disappeared in Libya in 1978.
