Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri participated in the Friday’s prayers that were held at the al-Siddiq mosque in the northern city of Tripoli.
Mufti of Tripoli and the North Sheikh Malek al-Chaar was leading the prayers. Following the prayers, Hariri stressed that the Future Movement will continue the path with its candidate for the presidency Marada leader MP Sleiman Frangieh.
Hariri also stressed that Lebanon is a democratic country, adding that those who are hindering the election of a new president are mainly obstructing the country and the top Christian state post. Hariri returned to Beirut last Sunday. He has since called for the “democratic game to take its natural course” while holding onto Frangieh's candidacy.
Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of President Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014.
Disputes between the rival parties have led to a lack of quorum at more than 30 parliamentary sessions tasked to electing a new president. The next session is set for March 2.
