Minister Rifi submits written resignation

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi submitted Monday his written resignation to Prime Minister Tammam Salam with the statement he issued, after the announcement on Sunday, enclosed.

On Sunday, Minister Rifi announced his resignation from the Cabinet, blaming Hezbollah and their allies for the country's political crisis, which has been without a president for 21 months while the state institutions paralyzed.

"The practices of Hezbollah's statelet and its allies are not acceptable and continuing to be part of this government has become an agreement to this deviation, or at least is a failure to confront it," Rifi said in a statement.

He also slammed the Cabinet's failure to find a solution to the seven-month-long waste management crisis. He went on to condemn Hezbollah for "obstructing" the referral of Michel Samaha's case to the Judicial Council.
