Child trafficking: a widespread phenomenon among Lebanese children

There may not be clear and accurate official statistics on child trafficking in Lebanon, but this phenomenon affects many areas: abused children, illegitimate adoptions, girls exploited through prostitution, and mafias that lure or force children into begging.

Unfortunately, these children belong to poor, marginalized or dismantled families who face problems so difficult to bear that they exploit their young girls and boys in exchange of sums of money. These are the same children who fall victims of child trafficking and are later on nestled by specialized NGOs.

World Vision prepared a preliminary study on human trafficking in Lebanon, setting the appropriate prevention and protection mechanisms.

Besides the role of global associations, legal legislations must be made operational to put an end to this dangerous phenomenon.
