The Finance committee held a meeting Tuesday in Sahet al Nejmeh under the chairmanship of Secretary of Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan, where they discussed the waste crisis.
After the session MP Kanaan said that “the aim of the meeting was to reach solutions”, pointing out that all parliamentary parties are responsible to solving this crisis and presenting suggestions to put a limit to it.
The deputy stated that “the information on waste was not presented to them accurately, they need all waste contracts even ones before 1997 in order to find all violations”, explaining that the committee is to closely analyze the earlier period.
For his part, Head of Kataeb Party MP Samy Gmayel said that he presented all he has before MP Kanaan clarifying all loopholes and corruption in the waste file.
Gmayel stated that he will suggest forming a parliamentary committee to investigating the waste file.
“Defaulters must be held accountable”, he added.
