Deputies quoted Speaker Nabih Berri as stressing the need to elect a new president, emphasizing the need to reach an agreement and finalize this issue as soon as possible.
During Wednesday’s deputies gathering, Berri also called for ending the debate over Arabism in political rhetoric, as long as this matter is mentioned in the introduction of the Lebanese Constitution, stressing that this issue is indisputable and a debate over it would be irrelevant.
On another note, Berri added that there are no excuses for abstaining from holding the municipal elections on time.
Commenting on the visit of the parliamentary delegation to Washington, Berri stated that he will follow up on the US procedures and the financial pressures, in order to protect the Lebanese economy and financial system.
He revealed that the finance minister will visit the United States for this end.
