Activists march from Sassine square toward Riyad al-Soleh

Activists from “We Want Accountability,” You Stink” and Kataeb party marched on Saturday from Achrafieh’s Sassine square toward the Riyad al-Soleh Square.

The activists stressed that no environment expert said that the incinerator that is set to be established in Dhour Choueir meets the health standards.

They also noted that they will not backtrack on their demands.

The protesters vowed to hold a general strike next Monday, adding that they will block roads and not attend schools and universities.

Lebanon has been plunged into a waste management crisis after the shutdown last July of the Naameh landfill where the garbage of Beirut and Mount Lebanon was dumped.

The closure resulted in the accumulation of garbage on the streets across the country, sparking environmental and health warnings over the prolongation of the problem.

Popular protests were held against the crisis since its beginning.
