Reports emerged on several news websites stating that a wave of mosquitoes invaded the coastal cities, raising panic among the citizens. However, sources denied the reports saying that the increase in mosquito numbers is due to the increase in temperature and the accumulation of garbage in some areas.
The sources added that the number of mosquitoes was higher around the piles of waste.
In this context, the Public Health Ministry issued a statement whereby it noted that the increase in temperature in rates deemed higher than the normal rates for this time of the year, led to an unusual increase in the number of mosquitoes and flies in several Lebanese regions.
The ministry added that the municipality of the southern city of Sidon, which has witnessed a significant increase in mosquitoes, will take the necessary measures and spray the pesticide in accordance the required practical methods.
