Fire at Moscow market kills 12 migrant workers
A spokesman for Moscow's fire department says a blaze at a market on the outskirts of Moscow has killed a dozen migrant workers who lived on the premises.

Yevgeny Bobylyov said all 12 were citizens of former Soviet nations in Central Asia.

Several million migrants from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have come to Moscow in search of work. Many of them have found jobs in construction or at the city's sprawling markets, which sell everything from clothes to construction materials.

Bobylyov said the fire that broke out at the Kachalovsky market early Tuesday tore through an insulated metal shed where the workers slept on bunk beds.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
