The defense team of former MP Hassan Yaacoub Tuesday filed a request for his release before Mount Lebanon Investigative Judge Peter Germanos, who is expected to take a decision in this regard within the next few hours.
The defense team pointed out that the legal detention period, which is four and a half months, has ended, in accordance with article 108 of the Lebanese Penal Code.
Yaacoub was arrested over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of Hannibal Gaddafi, son of late Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi.
Yaacoub's father was accompanying Imam Moussa al-Sadr and another man when they disappeared in Libya in 1978.
