Paris and Washington condemn Geagea’s assassination attempt
France slammed Thursday the assassination attempt that targeted Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea who announced on Wednesday that he was fired at in his Meerab residence, in north east Beirut.        

The spokesperson for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bernard Valero said that his country condemns Geagea’s assassination attempt that took place amid a deteriorating regional situation. He called for giving this “terrorist act” the attention it deserves.       

The U.S. also condemned Geagea’s assassination attempt and voiced its concern that his opposition to the Syrian regime may be behind this attack.     

Mark Toner, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department said that Washington strongly condemns what it seems to be “an assassination attempt against Lebanese politician Samir Geagea”.
