A press statement from the British embassy following comments by Minister Nouhad Machnouq on the Presidency suggesting that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has put forward MP Sleiman Frangieh's name.

British Embassy official said on Friday that the embassy does not support or oppose any particular candidate for the Lebanese presidency.
He also noted that the election of a President is only “the decision, and the responsibility, of the Lebanese people.”
He stressed that his country is ready to work with the next president of Lebanon, “whoever that may be,” adding that the embassy urges the election of a President as soon as possible."
On Thursday, Minister of Interior Nouhad Machnouq said in an interview with LBCI’s Kalam al-Nass TV show that Britain was behind former Prime Minister Saad Hariri's decision to nominate Marada leader MP Sleiman Frangieh for the presidency.
