Hassan Yaacoub’s release signed, pending approval

Mount Lebanon Investigative Judge Ziad Mkanna signed Thursday the release of former MP Hassan Yaacoub and referred it to the public prosecution to be approved or rejected.

In December 2015, former MP Hassan Yaacoub was arrested during his questioning over the kidnapping of the son of former Libyan leader Moammer Gaddafi.

Yaacoub’s father and journalist Abbas Badreddine were accompanying Sadr, an influential Shiite imam, when the three disappeared during an official visit to Libya in 1978.

Former Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi was widely blamed for the trio’s disappearance and last week Hannibal was charged with concealing information about the case, despite the fact that he was an infant at the time.
