A Cabinet session was held Wednesday at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tammam Salam with the telecommunications issue on top of its agenda, but the ministers failed to reach a decision in this regard, postponing the discussions until next Thursday.
Following the session, Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq stressed that, upon his request, Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayeb has been tasked with chairing the committee in charge of following up on the solid waste treatment plan, noting that “they will not allow Ain al-Helweh refugee camp to become a safe haven for terrorists.”
“All the security apparatuses are coordinating and implementing tight security measures in order to maintain calm at the camp,” he added.
For his part, Health Minister Wael Abou Faour, who presented during the session the files of three patients who urgently need surgery abroad, declared after the meeting that the cabinet approved covering half of the operations’ expenses, adding that Minister Alice Chabtini donated LBP 45 million for the treatment of one of the children.
Prior to the meeting, Telecommunications Minister Boutros Harb said that he did not finish preparing the file on extending the term of the mobile service providers and therefore it will not be addressed during today's session.
Foreign Affairs Minister also commented on the telecoms file, saying: “If you are not able to convince anyone (of what you are doing in your role), then confuse them ... this is what Minister Harb is doing with his 700-page report.”
In turn, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab pointed out that “Harb’s attack on Studio Vision was a cover up for a much bigger problem.”
