Hariri meets with Lavrov in Moscow

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed Tuesday his country’s support for Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty as well as the principles agreed upon by all the political leaders.

Lavrov’s remarks came following his meeting with former Prime Minister Saad Hariri in the Russian capital Moscow.

The FM voiced deep regret over the political crisis that Lebanon was passing through.

“I want to express our support for the efforts you are exerting in a bid to break the current deadlock,” he said, addressing Hariri.

As for the Syrian refugee crisis, Lavrov pointed out that Russia provided Lebanon with the financial and humanitarian assistance to overcome the crisis.

For his part, former PM Hariri disclosed that “Hezbollah was behind the presidential vacuum that Lebanon has been plunged into for more than two years.”

On another note, Hariri said, “The country is facing huge challenges with the presence of more than 1 million Syrian refugees."

Hariri arrived in the Russian capital late Monday, according to a statement released by his press office.

He was accompanied by two former Lebanese MPs, Ghattas Khoury and Bassem al-Sabeh, and his chief of staff, Nader Hariri.
