US ambassador welcomes formation of new Cabinet

US Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard welcomed on Monday the formation of a new cabinet in Lebanon.

“I want to congratulate Prime Minister Hariri and praise him on forming a new government,” the US envoy said.

“The Lebanese people are facing several challenges, and they now have a government that can work to address them. The United States reiterates its commitment to the Lebanese people and institutions, and its support for building a secure, stable, and prosperous future. Lebanon will not stand alone in dealing with the challenges ahead,” Richard added.

“The United States also praises the loyal leadership of Prime Minister Tammam Salam through this difficult period of political deadlock.We appreciated his commitment to strong US-Lebanese relations and look forward to his continued advice in the years to come.”

President, Michel Aoun, and Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri have formed a new government of 30 ministers drawn from most sides of the country's political spectrum and from all of its religious sects, the cabinet office said on Sunday.
