Charles Helo road reopened after being blocked by EDL contract workers

Security forces reopened on Wednesday the road near Charles Helo station and put out the burning tires set by Electricite du Liban's contract workers in protest of the EDL’s failure to grant them tenure.

The protesters later moved to the EDL building to resume their protest.

The EDL contract workers, whose number exceeds 2000, have been carrying out on-demand service for the electricity company through companies providing maintenance and repair service.

Earlier in the day, contract workers for the Tyre branch of EDL blocked the main road near the northern entrance to the city with burning tires, banning cars from entering or exiting the city.

The LAF intervened and diverted traffic to the city’s southern entrance.
