Negotiations between representatives of PAC employees and the company have reached a settlement in regards to compensations under the wing of the Ministry of Labor. The employees’ plea came under “unfair dismissal” and not “economic layoffs”.

According to the agreement reached, the recent salary increase approved by cabinet will be paid. All due salaries and days off will also be included.

The agreement stipulates:
- Granting employees whose work duration is between 3 months and 3 full years: one month warning and 3 months compensation for unfair dismissal.

- Granting employees whose work duration is between 3 and 6 full years: 2 months warning and 5 months compensation for unfair dismissal.

- Granting employees whose work duration is between 6 and 12 full years: 3 months warning and 8 months compensation for unfair dismissal.

- Granting employees whose work duration is over 12 full years: 4 months warning and 10 months compensation for unfair dismissal.

The agreement also stipulates that PAC pays employees’ dues as soon as funds are available.

For his part, Labor Minister Salim Jreissati confirmed that PAC employees have been granted their legal rights in the consultation phase, stressing that both teams did not go to the Conciliatory Labor Council. Jreissati added that PAC has respected Lebanese rules and regulations and systems involved with proceeding the mass economic layoffs.

In a talk with LBCI, Jreissati said that the preliminary foundations have been placed, followed by the payments program. He pointed that the entire operation has been done in accordance with the law and stated that all liquidation proceedings may lead to non-compliance with due dates specified in advance. He also noted that all employees can use the minutes that was signed by both parties to gain access to their rights.

In this context, PAC employees were notified Wednesday afternoon about the layoff decision in the presence of lawyer Aline Achkar. Hundreds of employees then signed the unemployment decision after 50 days had passed since the notification of the ministry by the company.
