A cautious calm reigned in
the city of Tripoli after the LAF entered the city’s old souks and contained
the fierce clashes that expanded to include several axes, injuring 3 people.
Life had gradually began to return to normal in
Tripoli after LAF completed deployment in the city that witnessed 3 days
of continued clashes. Early in the morning, LAF’s armored vehicles
entered Souria Street which separates between Bab el Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen.
Information made available
to LBCI revealed that the incidents of Souk Al-Attarin were personal and are not
directly related to the recent events in Tripoli. The hour long dispute erupted
between the Al Nachar family and Sheikh Faisal al-Naanaai.
The LAF command announced that today at dawn, its units intensified their deployment in the region that
witnessed armed clashes mainly in Jabal Mohsen, Bab el Tebbaneh and the Souria
Street in order to get things back to normal. The command added that the
Internal Security Forces intensified their presence in the city to help citizens
deal with their daily matters.
The LAF command said in a statement that the
presence of LAF in Tripoli or any other region aims at maintaining stability,
not at confronting them. “We are betting on the awareness of the city’s residents
and their support to the army”.
The statement added that the LAF is
determined to clear the city from armed militancy, including shooting at any
gunmen without warning.
Information
made available to LBCI revealed that one person was injured overnight after a three-story
building collapsed in Jabal Muhsen.
In this context, Sheikh
Ahmad al-Assir, the Imam of Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque in Sidon, warned on Tuesday that the Tripoli incidents could be repeated so long as members affiliated with
the Syrian regime are implementing its agenda, as he said.
“The
goal lies in making Tripoli pay the price of [being involved] in the Syrian
issue”, he told Nharkom Said TV Show.
As he confirmed his opposition to armament, Sheikh
Assir said that the arms of the resistance across Lebanese regions incite desire
within all parties, especially the Sunnis, to arm themselves, confirming that
the issue of arms needs a drastic solution.
LBCI’s camera was the first to enter the Souria
Street, separating between Bab el-Tebbaneh and Jabal Muhsen , where the LAF
began deploying in the morning after an Engineer Regiment cleared the street
from bombs.
